What each ingredient does

White bread crumbs
Form the body of the pudding and absorb the liquid custard.
Milk
Provides the liquid that sets with the eggs into a soft custard.
Egg yolks
Set the custard through heat, giving it richness and a tender texture.
Melted butter
Adds fat for richness and a smooth, moist crumb.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and balances the tartness of the lemon.
