Bread-and-butter Pudding

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Line the bottom of a pudding dish with buttered bread slices.

  3. Strew currants over the bread layer.

  4. Add another layer of buttered bread and more currants, repeating until the dish is filled.

  5. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and flavoring.

  6. Pour the custard mixture over the layered bread and currants.

  7. Let it soak for 1 to 2 hours before baking.
