Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Walnut meats
Provide the main body, richness and nutty flavor of the croquettes.
Bread crumbs
Add bulk and absorb the milk to form a firm, shapeable mixture.
Milk
Moistens the mixture and helps bind the bread crumbs into a soft paste.
Egg
Binds the mixture together so the balls hold their shape while frying.
Whole wheat flour
Thickens the butter and oil base so the milk turns the mixture creamy.

The step that matters

Frying the balls in hot oil. If the oil is not hot enough, the croquettes absorb grease and turn soggy before a golden crust forms. Oil that is too hot browns the outside before the centre heats through, so keep the heat steady.

Swap the walnut
