Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sponge cake or bread
Forms the soft base and layers that soak up the pineapple juices and custard.
Pineapple
Adds fruity acidity and moisture that flavour and soften the layers as they bake.
Cold custard or wine and water mixture
Moistens the cake and bread so they bake into a tender, sliceable pudding.
Sugar
Sweetens the fruit and balances the tartness of the pineapple.
