Baked Plum Pudding

Oven, in the book's wordsA slow oven

Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a slow oven”. The 300°F (150°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Remove the crusts from the bread and cover it with milk. Let it soak overnight.

  2. In the morning, pour off any remaining milk.

  3. Add the chopped suet, molasses, sugar, raisins, currants, citron, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vinegar to the soaked bread.

  4. Mix the ingredients in a bowl over warm water until well combined.

  5. Pour the mixture into a greased pudding mold.

  6. Bake in a slow oven at 300°F (150°C) for 5 hours.
