Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Egg yolks
Thicken the custard as they set with heat, adding richness and body.
Corn starch
Thickens the milk mixture so the custard holds its shape when cooled.
Egg whites
Whipped into stiff peaks to form the light, airy topping.
Lemon juice
Adds sharp acidity that balances the sweetness of the custard and topping.
Sweet milk
Forms the base of the custard, providing liquid and creamy texture.

The step that matters

Stirring the egg yolks into the boiling custard. Adding yolks to very hot milk without constant stirring can scramble them. Steady stirring keeps the custard smooth and thickened.

The recipe marks coconut as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, milk, corn, lemon, egg):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Orangefits about as well
  3. Figfits about as well
