Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Beaten yolks and whites add lightness and help the pudding set as it cooks.
Bread crumbs
Soaked in milk, they add body and moisture to the pudding.
Butter
Creamed with sugar, it adds richness and a tender texture.
Stewed apples
Provide moisture, bulk and fruity sweetness to the pudding.

The step that matters

Folding in the egg whites. Whites hold air only if they are beaten stiff and folded gently. Stirring them hard deflates the foam, so the pudding turns dense rather than light.

Swap the apple

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (bread, milk, butter, egg, sugar, lemon, almond):

  1. Vanillafits better
