Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Flour
Forms the dough structure that holds the filling and sets when cooked.
Yeast
Produces gas that makes the dough rise and become light.
Egg
Adds richness and helps bind the dough.
Shortening
Adds fat that tenderizes the dough texture.
Peaches
Provide the sweet, fruity filling that is cooked into a compote.

The step that matters

Press edges firmly together. If the edges are not sealed well, the compote can leak out during steaming and the dumplings can open or lose their filling.
